Job Title – Regional Development Surf Coach South West England

The Job role

Job description:
Overall role description: To create, coach, develop and support a strong surf club culture in the South West of England and raise coaching talent and participation in the sport. To meet a number of pre-set key performance indicators for Sport England as a pre-requisite for the role. The post will last 3 years and ideally will be one full time position but could be split as a job share if practicalities and skills allow.

Duties and responsibilities:
• In consultation with the BSA National Director, to write and deliver an agreed strategic development programme to create and maintain an active surf club culture and network in the South West and to subsequently increase grass roots participation numbers in surfing
• To create a monthly critical timepath for the delivery of all elements of this programme
• To continually monitor and evaluate the progress of this programme and to alter as necessary to meet the Key Performance Indicators set down by the Sport England agreement
• To liaise between and with: The BSA directorate, surf school leaders and key personnel, current existing surf clubs, local authorities and key sports body personnel, schools and school sport bodies, youth and community clubs, Sport England
• To create and run the required number of surf club coaching courses (BSA levels 1,2 ,3 and 4 as required) throughout the 3 years
• To increase the numbers of coaches involved at all levels and to create further opportunities for surf club coaches and coaches to network and gain new knowledge and skills
• To personally coach and mentor key participants in the current surf club system or identify new potential participants and coach and mentor them to take on the role of Surf Club Co-ordinators.
• To create and maintain a Regional Surf Development Toolkit and to update this as and when appropriate. To oversee the design and production of this document and to add and circulate new appendices as and when appropriate
• To inspect surf clubs and ensure BSA best practice and coaching systems are upheld at all times
• To arrange and manage an office and time management systems
• To provide a detailed monthly activity, progress and results update for the BSA’s National Director and overview KPI based quarterly reports for the BSA Committee and Sport England
• To create a clear structure and pathway for youth surfers to develop into competitive athletes.
• To improve the competitive results of individuals and national teams and to increase the numbers of SW surfers in national squads


Qualification requirements for the role :

Essential;
BSA level 3/4 surf coaching award.
Beach Lifeguard award

Desirable;
Degree or HND level qualification in sports/ leisure.
BSA-Trainer Assessor status
BSA Surf judge award

Personal Requirements for the role;
• Background of substantial experience in successful BSA surf coaching.
• Background in personal surfing with substantial experience, and preferably contest experience.
• Full and current driving licence.
• Basic IT skills (use of Microsoft office software)
• High level of communication skills, including practical teaching, face meetings, telephone, email and letter.

Salary:
£18K per year
